Paolo Palma is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University. His research interests are driven by two main questions: (i) how can we reduce prejudice and change behavior, and (ii) how do experiences of discrimination shape people’s social interactions, health, and wellbeing? During his fellowship, Dr. Palma plans to build on the HIV Stigma Framework (Earnshaw & Chaudoir, 2009) to examine how informational campaigns, such as Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U), may affect the stigma experienced by people living with HIV. Specifically, he aims to answer two related questions. First, does improved knowledge about HIV transmission and undetectability change the beliefs of HIV-negative individuals and how they interact with people living with HIV? Second, how does the adoption of U=U affect the mental health outcomes and stigma experienced by people living with HIV? Dr. Palma received his PhD in social psychology from the University of Western Ontario and is concurrently supported by a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
