Ontario Regional Team

Regional Overview

As Canada’s most populous province, Ontario has the largest number of immigrants and has the largest population of people living with HIV in the country, among whom people from Afro-Caribbean and Black communities are disproportionately represented. Ontario also has the most cases of HCV, HBV and STBBIs.

Priorities
  • Engaging with youth and young adults to improve uptake of prevention interventions and address harms related to the opioid crisis
  • Improving uptake of prevention strategies in gay and bisexual men
  • Maximizing mental health, well-being, and healthy aging among people living with HIV

Additional Information

While the numbers of HIV diagnoses have stabilized in recent years, there is much work to be done to improve access to harm reduction services, HIV and STBBI prevention methods, and treatment and care options for both newer residents and lifelong citizens. The Ontario region has extensive expertise in the design, analysis and conduct of clinical trials, cohort studies, implementation science projects, and immunologic research.

Ontario Team Leads

The leadership for the Ontario team includes two academic Co-leads, one Community Representative, an Early Career Researcher, an Indigenous Experience Lead, and a KM Liaison.
